The Chesapeake Bay has many rivers, coves and marina destinations to explore. Boaters can cruise the bay from the southernmost tip in Virginia at the mouth all the way north to the Upper Chesapeake Bay, reaching into Maryland and Delaware.

Transient Boat Slips at Elk River Marinas on Upper Chesapeake Bay

The Elk River is located on the north end of the Chesapeake Bay and begins at Turkey Point and leads up to the entrance of the C and D Canal. Marinas located on the northern end of the Elk River on the Chesapeake Bay are easily accessed by towns and cities in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Although these marinas are a bit lacking in amenities and require cautious cruising up shallower waters of the Elk River, they do offer transients easy access to destinations like Chesapeake Inn on the C and D Canal.

Transient Boat Slips at Northeast River Marinas on Upper Chesapeake Bay

Located on the western coast of the Upper Chesapeake Bay, Northeast River marinas are popular home ports to Pennsylvania and Delaware residents because of the easy access from major area roads. Marinas on the Northeast River offer transient slip renters easy access to area destinations such as the NautiGoose Restaurant (with limited docking), Main Street in Northeast, MD (with quaint shops, restaurants and bars) and the nearby Susquehanna River.

Transient Boat Slips at Susquehanna River Marinas on Upper Chesapeake Bay

Located on the eastern shore of the Upper Chesapeake Bay, the Susquehanna River is home to several marinas that offer transient slip rentals. The town of Havre de Grace is located near marinas and offers transient boaters small town shops and restaurants. Boaters are cautioned to avoid the shallow waters of the “Susquehanna Flats” upon entering the river and should stay within marked channels.

Transient Boat Slips at Bohemia River Marinas on Upper Chesapeake Bay

The beautiful Bohemia River, located on the eastern shore of the Upper Chesapeake Bay south of the C and D Canal, is a popular destination for boaters from many area marinas and rivers for anchorage, crabbing or fishing. There are many coves past a no-wake zone that are often full of boats rafted up on any given summer weekend.
