ICW Cruise – Day 19 Final Destination in Ft Myers FL

Final leg of the AICW Cruise navigates the locks of Okeechobee Waterway and reaches the final destination of Ft. Myers FL

This guest post blog series details the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway Cruise of two friends, Karen and George, as they cruise the east coast from Chesapeake Bay to the Florida Gulf Coast.

Day 19 of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway Cruise at 8:45 am we said “Lets go home.”

After a crazy night of partying, dancing and singing at the Roland and Mary Ann Martin Marina TiKi bar we are ready to roll.

This will be our final day on the water on our 19 day cruise from the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland to the Florida Gulf Coast in Ft. Myers.

If all goes well we should arrive at the Legacy Harbor Marina by 4pm today.  We are all moving a bit slow and praying for a quiet, uneventful ride.

The ride from Clewiston to Moore Haven lock was some of the prettiest.  The waterway is deep and wide.

We had some difficulty navigating the Moore haven lock and Special K kissed the concrete wall a little more aggressively than the captain would have liked.

This gave Betty Ann to chance to write our name on the wall.  God we have three more of these things to get through today – we better shape up and get our act together or it is going to be another tough day.

We cruised down the Caloosahatchee Canal without any further trouble anxiously watching for our new home in the distance.

We arrived right before the four O’clock hour to none less than stormy skies but docked with skilled precision.  Boy what a crew.

We all cheered and with a smile and a tear welcomed our new start.

Our adventure down the ICW will be one of stories to be told for many years to come.
